FONDAPOL TO HEAD 2006-2007 NEWSLETTER EDITORIAL BOARD PDF  | Print |  E-mail
fondapol_logo_1.jpgThink-tanks and political foundations which are members of the network met at the end of the Lyon summer university to discuss future action. They proposed that the electronic newsletter should be published on a quaterly basis, and that an organisation from the country in which the last summer university was held should be chairing the editorial board.

It was agreed that the Newsletter Editorial Board for 2006-2007 would comprise of the Fondation pour l'innovation politique (Paris) (in the chair), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Berlin), FAES Foundation (Madrid) and the Free Europe Centre (Budapest), together with EIN itself.

SEPTEMBER 2006 LYON EUROPEAN IDEAS FAIR AND SUMMER UNIVERSITY PDF  | Print |  E-mail

EIF first roundtableThe EIN held its fifth summer university and third 'European Ideas Fair' from Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 September at the Centre de Congrès, Lyon, France. Previous events had been held in Oxford in 2002, El Escorial in 2003, Berlin in 2004 and Lisbon in 2005. As for the last two years, the Lyon meeting was designated an external Bureau meeting of the EPP-ED Group.

The EIN's Greek partner foundation, the Constantine Karamanlis Institute for Democracy, kindly invited the network to hold its six-monthly Review Meeting in Athens, this June.

karamanlis1.jpgThe meeting ran from the evening of Friday 2 June to late afternoon on Saturday 3 June. Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis - nephew of the former President of the Hellenic Republic - addressed the opening dinner (speech attached). The forty EIN participants were joined by a hundred Greek decision-makers and opinion-makers invited by the CKID.

The dinner was chaired by Ioannis Varvitsiotis MEP, former Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Constantinos Karamanlis Institute. Participants were welcome by Dr Constantine Arvanitsopoulos, Associate Professor of International Politics and Executive Director of the Constantinos Karamanlis Institute.

The principal working session took place on the Saturday morning. It brought together the Chairmen and Rapporteurs of the EIN's twelve working groups, as well as key figures from the think tanks and foundations associated with the network. The afternoon session was devoted to reviewing the state of play of the work undertaken by the several Think-Tank Task Forces due to present reports at the 2006 EIN  Summer University in Lyon.
